Adam Ramsay-Peaty clinched the bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games while Sam Williamson emerged victorious.
Ramsay-Peaty faced a tough challenge from the start but his late surge fell short of securing another title. He clocked in at 26.94 seconds, trailing the Australian champion by 0.44 seconds, who claimed a remarkable double victory in Glasgow.
Despite finishing a mere 0.01 seconds behind Michael Houlie, Ramsay-Peaty settled for third place. The defending champion, who had triumphed in Birmingham four years ago, pumped up the crowd during his entrance, yet fell short of claiming the top spot.
Having qualified for the final with a time of 26.82 seconds, Ramsay-Peaty only trailed South Africa’s Houlie in the semi-final round.
This achievement follows Ramsay-Peaty’s bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke final over the weekend, where he entered as the fastest qualifier but was surpassed by Williamson and Filip Nowacki from Jersey. His final time of 59.65 seconds was slower than his semi-final performance and three seconds off his personal best from seven years ago.
Expressing mixed emotions, Ramsay-Peaty stated that he believed he deserved better after dedicating years to his comeback in the sport. He remarked, “It required immense courage to return to competition, so we should appreciate every achievement, but that conflicts with my athlete mentality and aspirations.”
He added, “I simply feel I merit more. I understand that sports outcomes are determined by performance on the day, but I am confident in my abilities. It’s truly disheartening.”
