The Spanish weather agency AEMET forecasts temperatures exceeding 40C, warning of very high to extreme fire risks across the nation despite temperature decreases. Forest fires, particularly in Madrid and Avila, have forced over 11,500 evacuations, with the government seeking aid from the European Union, specifically requesting aircraft for firefighting efforts.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has described the situation as dire, expressing solidarity with affected communities facing widespread devastation from the wildfires.
