A father’s vacation turned nightmarish as he experienced severe blood loss while beside a pool. Peter Beetham, aged 49, marked his recovery from cancer following three years of chemotherapy by organizing a trip to Gran Canaria for a week with his partner Sharleene Hickman and a friend. However, just two days into the £12,500 holiday, Peter’s health deteriorated. While relaxing by the pool, he suddenly vomited a significant amount of blood and collapsed. Despite being taken to a hospital, he was initially dismissed with a diagnosis of sunstroke.
The next day, when Peter continued to experience persistent bleeding, he made the decision to return home and boarded a £50 flight on March 15. Upon arrival at Manchester Airport, he headed straight to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where medical professionals diagnosed him with internal bleeding. According to reports from Cheshire Live, doctors identified a ruptured ulcer in Peter’s bowel, which he attributed to a previous surgery to remove his pancreas in August 2025.
Peter feared for his life upon learning that he could have perished either on the plane or by the pool. Recounting his ordeal, Peter expressed gratitude for surviving after receiving seven blood transfusions and a minor surgical procedure. He emphasized his fortune in being alive, considering the perilous situations he faced during his trip. Peter shared his distress over the ruined holiday experience due to the unexpected health crisis.
Currently recuperating, Peter is scheduled for additional medical procedures, including an iron transfusion and scans.
