A teenage student has been acquitted of attempted murder charges after stabbing a teacher in the head at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire. The 16-year-old, whose identity remains protected, was convicted of wounding with intent following the incident involving teacher Vicki Williams.
During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that the student, then 15 years old, had approached the teacher to review his schoolwork. Subsequently, a confrontation ensued where the teacher attempted to disarm the student, resulting in her sustaining injuries.
The jury deliberated and found the student guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but cleared him of attempted murder charges. The court heard that the student had brought a kitchen knife to school, leading to the unfortunate altercation with the teacher.
Following the incident, Mrs. Williams received medical treatment for a wound to her scalp and other minor injuries. The defense suggested that the student had not harbored any ill feelings towards the teacher and had no motive to harm her.
CCTV footage presented during the trial showed the student leaving the school premises after the incident. The prosecution argued that the student had premeditated the attack on the teacher, choosing her as a vulnerable target due to her being alone in the classroom at the time.
Mrs. Williams recounted feeling like she was in mortal danger during the assault, which the prosecution labeled as a sustained attack. The jury ultimately reached a majority verdict, convicting the student of wounding with intent. The sentencing is scheduled for September 3 at Swansea Crown Court.
