“British Man Accused of Drug Trafficking Cleared to Return Home”

Tomorrow, the British elderly man accused of being involved in drug trafficking internationally will have his case officially closed, allowing him to promptly return to the United Kingdom. William “Billy Boy” Eastment, 80, faces the challenge of arranging funds for his flight back home, raising concerns about his ability to endure the 14-hour journey. Eastment, a retired heavy vehicle mechanic from Milborne Port, Somerset, was detained for nearly a year in the harsh Santiago 1 Penitentiary after being apprehended at the airport with methamphetamine valued at approximately £200,000 concealed in his belongings.

Following a successful appeal for release on health grounds, Eastment’s legal team pushed for the closure of the case due to his deteriorating health conditions exacerbated by his time in custody. Suffering from recurrent pneumonia and underlying health issues, Eastment was initially granted house arrest in Chile, but his lawyers advocated for a complete resolution, citing his age and health limitations.

The court is set to formally conclude the case the following day, paving the way for Eastment’s departure from Chile and his return to the UK. Eastment’s unexpected arrest surprised his neighbors and friends, who knew him as an enthusiast of fishing and bowls rather than an alleged drug courier. Eastment claimed he was deceived by scammers who tricked him into unknowingly transporting drugs, leading to his arrest in Chile.

Now, with the imminent closure of the case, Eastment’s arduous legal journey comes to an end, allowing him to finally head back home after months of legal battles and uncertainties.
