A mother devastated by the injury to her two-year-old daughter has made a firm decision not to send her child back to the nursery after a distressing incident. The toddler sustained a concussion and fractures to her forehead and eye socket in the accident.
According to Kimberley, she was initially informed by Little Explorers PZ LTD in Penzance, Cornwall, about a minor fall at the park resulting in a bump and graze. However, upon her arrival, she discovered that her daughter, Amethyst, had fallen two meters from a bandstand onto a concrete wall.
Kimberley, recalling the situation, stated that she rushed to the nursery upon receiving the call but was shocked to find her daughter with severe injuries including a swollen face, split lip, and a black eye. Despite the gravity of the situation, she highlighted her disappointment in the handling of the incident by the nursery staff.
The mother detailed the distressing events that followed, including a swift visit to the hospital where Amethyst was diagnosed with a fractured skull and eye socket and a concussion. To her dismay, Kimberley mentioned that CCTV footage captured the fall, showing her daughter being wheeled back to the nursery in a pram and allowed to sleep.
In response to the incident, Ofsted suspended Little Explorers PZ LTD from providing childcare due to potential risks to children’s safety. The regulatory body cited concerns about the nursery’s failure to promptly address medical attention after the fall and downplaying the severity of the incident when communicating with the mother.
An official statement from Ofsted informed parents of the suspension, emphasizing the need to investigate and mitigate any potential harm to children under the care of Little Explorers PZ LTD. The government agency assured that the suspension was a temporary measure pending further inquiries to ensure the safety of all children involved.
Amethyst’s hospital discharge summary outlined her injuries, including a black eye, bruising, swelling, dried blood, and a skull fracture extending into her eye socket. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they had conducted a safeguarding inquiry related to the childcare provider but found no criminal offenses at the time.
Little Explorers PZ LTD has not yet responded to requests for comments on the incident.
