EDF is offering complimentary fans and energy credit this summer to assist households facing challenges in staying cool. The energy provider is introducing new Heatwave Relief Packs as part of a £1 million initiative to aid vulnerable customers during periods of intense summer heat.
Following the UK’s record-breaking June temperature of 37.7C and current heat health alerts in England, EDF aims to support up to 10,000 customers who may struggle to maintain a cool home. Eligible households can receive tailored assistance of up to £100, including the provision of fans and other cooling solutions.
Identification of qualifying customers will be conducted by EDF through various means, such as support teams, referrals from trusted partners, and direct customer interactions. Joe Souto, EDF’s Director of Retail, emphasized the importance of providing extra support to vulnerable households in extreme temperatures to ensure their safety and well-being.
As energy prices have recently risen due to the Ofgem price cap increase, households are facing higher bills. The price cap adjustment will be in effect until October, with predictions from Cornwall Insight suggesting that households may expect bills around £1,849 in the upcoming months. This financial burden coincides with the approaching colder weather as households transition back to using heating systems.
