During my recent stay at what has been dubbed the ‘UK’s poshest Premier Inn’, I was immediately impressed even before reaching my room. Premier Inn, the UK’s largest hotel chain owned by Whitbread, offers over 85,000 rooms in more than 800 locations across the country, known for its affordable yet comfortable accommodations and memorable Lenny Henry adverts.
Expanding its offerings, Premier Inn introduced Zip by Premier Inn and hub by Premier, providing smaller rooms at more budget-friendly prices without compromising on comfort. One hub, situated in a former Victorian Old Bailey in London, gained a reputation as the ‘UK’s poshest Premier Inn’ shortly after opening earlier this year, boasting trendy interiors akin to independent boutiques.
Nestled in a vibrant area of central London, the hub by Premier Inn London Farringdon (Old Bailey) hotel is housed in the historic Snow Hill Police Station, a Grade II-listed building from the 1870s. The blend of original Victorian features with modern design elements offers a unique and affordable stay experience, with room rates starting from £75, making it a standout choice among the myriad of London accommodations.
The hotel’s authentic features, including a striking white-tiled stairway, tall ceilings, and arched windows, evoke a sense of stepping back in time, complemented by a modern reception area. Guests can relax in the communal lounge adorned with elegant furnishings, and enjoy drinks at the bar and meals in the dining area, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
My stay in one of the standard rooms, though compact, utilized the space efficiently with storage options, a small desk area, and a well-designed bathroom. The room’s layout, including a fixed double bed against the wall and clever storage solutions, exemplifies simplicity and functionality. Controlled lighting and air conditioning added convenience, ensuring a comfortable night’s rest in the heart of London.
Staying at this unique hub by Premier Inn provided a memorable experience, showcasing that luxury and affordability can harmoniously coexist. Offering a glimpse into history within a modern setting, this former police station turned hotel is indeed a hidden gem in the bustling city. Rooms are available from £75 per night, making it an attractive choice for travelers seeking a distinctive and budget-friendly stay.
