Weather modeling indicates that the ongoing heatwave in the UK, pushing temperatures above 30C once more, may persist for over two weeks. The GFS weather model projects that temperatures could exceed 30C daily until July 22, implying continued heatwave conditions for at least another 15 days.
Forecasts suggest temperatures could rise above 35C on multiple days leading up to July 22, with peak highs of 36C expected this Friday in western England and most central and southern regions reaching at least 32C. Following this, similar high temperatures are anticipated for next Wednesday, with 36C forecasted in western England and potential highs of 35C in parts of Wales and southern England.
The upcoming Saturday is likely to see widespread hot weather, with northern England also experiencing temperatures above 30C. Eastern England could reach highs of 37C, possibly marking the peak of this heatwave. Temperature anomaly maps illustrate the UK shaded in deep red, indicating temperatures well above average for the season.
According to the GFS model, 23 counties across England and Wales may witness temperatures of 35C or higher over the next 15 days. The Met Office suggests that while this week’s temperatures may not reach June’s levels, highs of 35C are still expected.
The forecast for southern UK areas includes temperatures around 32C today, rising to 33C tomorrow, and potentially reaching 34C on Thursday, with isolated locations possibly hitting 35C by the end of the week. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates mentioned that nighttime temperatures will not be as high as seen in June, though urban areas may stay warm, especially later in the week. Precautions against the heat and sun exposure are advised due to high temperatures and UV levels across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
