A daring individual has engaged in a lengthy standoff with law enforcement, spending six hours perched 460ft high on a bridge pillar to create graffiti art, make demands for tax reduction, and request a sandwich. The unidentified graffiti artist climbed the Bolte Bridge in Melbourne, Australia, to paint another mural featuring the city’s renowned Pam the Bird tag.
Despite police presence and concerns for his safety, the mystery vandal remained at the top of the bridge pillar, causing traffic disruptions on the Bolte Bridge and M1 motorway. He has set forth a series of unconventional demands before agreeing to descend, sharing them on a social media account associated with Pam the Bird.
Initially calling for tax cuts and a blanket to combat the cold, the masked individual filmed himself atop the pillar, insisting on lower taxes. When pressed by social media users for specifics, he simply stated “All of them.” Subsequently, he requested a peanut butter and jam sandwich, refusing to come down without it.
As onlookers watched, he briefly descended partway down the pillar, causing a stir among the police before returning to his perch at the top. The individual has updated his timeline, indicating he plans to descend peacefully at noon, citing the need to wait for the tide to recede due to the bridge’s height above sea level.
While the method of reaching the top remains unknown, video evidence shows the individual rappelling down for the graffiti work. Pam the Bird’s tag has gained attention in Melbourne since 2023, appearing on notable structures like Flinders Street Station and the city’s ‘International Gateway’ display along the M1.
The situation continues with the individual still perched atop the bridge pillar as authorities monitor the scene.
