An 18-year-old student tragically lost his life after entering the River Wye during a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Wales. Emergency services responded to the incident in Glasbury, Powys, on Tuesday evening following reports of the teenager going into the water and not resurfacing. The Dyfed-Powys Police, along with a mountain rescue team and the fire service, located the student’s body after a search operation.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award confirmed that the teenager was participating in the expedition when the tragedy occurred. Expressing deep sorrow, the spokesperson stated, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of a young person during a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Powys, Wales.
