Tragic Collision Claims Eight Buddhist Monks

Eight Buddhist monks lost their lives, and 13 others sustained severe injuries following a tragic incident where a pick-up truck collided with a walking pilgrimage in Thailand. The devastating event occurred around noon local time on Thursday in the Mukdahan province in northeastern Thailand. Five monks were declared deceased at the scene, while the remaining three succumbed to their injuries in a hospital.

According to reports, the pick-up truck involved in the collision was allegedly driven by an 11-year-old boy who took the vehicle onto the road without adult supervision. The tragic crash unfolded on the roadside in Ban Na Si Nuan in the Mueang district, and the age of the driver has not been officially confirmed.

Upon the arrival of emergency services at the cordoned-off scene, monks were found lying on the road and its periphery. The 13 injured monks were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.

An ongoing investigation is underway as authorities work diligently to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The monks were on a pilgrimage by foot to Don Tan district after having lunch at Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Manorom.
