“UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves Boosts Aid to Ukraine in Kyiv Visit”

Rachel Reeves has pledged to enhance and expedite aid to foster Ukraine’s recovery during her visit to Kyiv. The Chancellor engaged with families at a UK-supported facility for children with disabilities and met with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, in the company of British and Ukrainian defense firms. In Kyiv, Reeves paid respects to the victims of Russia’s unlawful invasion at St Michael’s memorial wall and witnessed the extensive damage at Kyiv Pechersk Lavra caused by a recent major Russian assault.

Expressing unwavering support for Ukraine, the Chancellor stated, “The UK’s commitment to Ukraine is unwavering. I am honored to witness the positive outcomes of UK investments in Kyiv.” She highlighted the multifaceted partnership aiding Ukraine not only militarily but also economically, empowering the country to rebuild, assist vulnerable populations, and safeguard critical infrastructure, emphasizing that Ukraine’s security is integral to Europe’s security.

Reeves’ visit followed discussions at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk, where the UK announced over £290 million in support for Ukraine’s resilience and energy security through bilateral aid and a UKEF-backed agreement, in addition to recent financial assistance totaling $1 billion. The UK has allocated up to £25 billion for Ukraine, including £16 billion in military support, up to £5.6 billion in non-military aid, and £3.5 billion in UK export finance, crucial for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.

This financial aid has been pivotal in sustaining Ukraine and its populace amid severe Russian attacks, ensuring over 28,000 households and businesses have access to essential utilities and fortifying 25% of Ukraine’s national energy infrastructure against further assaults. Moreover, the UK continues to apply pressure on the Kremlin by sanctioning over 3,400 Russia-linked entities while bolstering Ukraine’s long-term prosperity.

Recent developments have seen Ukraine intensifying efforts against Russian forces in Crimea, aiming to isolate the region from mainland Russia. In a bold move, Kyiv’s special forces collaborated with Crimea’s resistance fighters to dismantle a strategic logistics bridge and neutralize over 60 Russian military targets.
