A man has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for encouraging the sexual assault of a baby and an eight-year-old child. Mark Craig, 56, exchanged explicit messages detailing his desire to abuse children with an individual he thought had access to young girls, including a baby. However, unbeknownst to him, he was communicating with an undercover police officer conducting an investigation.
Following a comprehensive operation by officers from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), Craig was arrested in March. He faced charges for arranging and facilitating a child sex offense, producing indecent images of a child, and disseminating indecent child images. Craig admitted guilt to all charges during his appearance at Newcastle Crown Court.
Originating from the Westerhope area in Newcastle, Craig received his sentence at the same court after pleading guilty to the aforementioned charges. Detective Inspector Hull from NEROCU expressed relief at the outcome, emphasizing the importance of identifying and bringing dangerous individuals like Craig to justice. The diligent efforts of law enforcement under Operation Sentinel, a regional initiative targeting serious and organized crime, will persist in investigating online offenses to protect children.
