“Maximize Savings on Groceries with Insider Shopping Tips”

The cost of grocery shopping continues to rise, making it essential to be mindful of what you purchase, regardless of the store you frequent. Summertime often sees an increase in shopping expenses due to various social gatherings and special occasions that call for extra food purchases.

Drawing from my three-year experience as a former Morrisons employee, shopping strategies can make a significant difference in your expenses. Early morning or late-night shopping can offer opportunities to find discounted items, particularly those approaching their expiration dates. These reduced-price products, typically marked with yellow stickers, can provide savings of up to 25%, sometimes even on slightly damaged but still safe-to-consume items.

Midday may not offer the best deals, as the prime discounted items tend to be snatched up earlier or not significantly reduced. However, it’s always worth checking the yellow-sticker section for unexpected savings on products like cooked meats and chicken pieces. Look for items suitable for freezing to extend their usability and save money.

Evening shopping can present substantial discounts, often up to 75% off, as items near their expiry dates are further reduced. To make the most of these discounts, aim to shop an hour or two before the store closes, giving staff enough time to mark down prices and clear out expiring products.

While the timing of discounts varies among stores based on several factors like staffing levels and stock availability, approaching closing time generally offers the best chances of finding heavily discounted items. Seasonal events like Christmas or Easter also influence discount timings, with supermarkets aiming to clear stock before closures, leading to significant price reductions on holiday-specific items.

Consider opting for store-brand products over pricier alternatives to manage costs effectively without compromising on quality. Experimenting with own-brand products can reveal equally satisfying options while keeping your grocery budget in check. Remember, while yellow-sticker discounts can be advantageous, not every discounted item may suit your needs, so shop wisely to make the most of available savings.
