Man’s Body Found at Southampton Common: Police Seek Woman with Dog

Police have unveiled fresh CCTV footage in connection with a homicide inquiry following the discovery of a man’s body at a nature reserve.

Investigators are seeking a woman spotted walking a dog at Southampton Common, believing she may possess crucial information for their investigation. This appeal follows the identification of 45-year-old Ernest Konrad Deputat’s remains at Ornamental Lake on Southampton Common on October 8.

Law enforcement noted substantial fire damage at the crime scene, prompting the launch of a murder probe. Two individuals detained in connection with the case have been released on bail.

Authorities suspect that Mr. Deputat, a Polish citizen, had been residing off the grid at the common and was known within Southampton’s homeless community. Hampshire Police disclosed a new CCTV image, stating, “We think the woman depicted in this image, seen walking a dog on Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday, September 6, could provide valuable assistance.”

“We urge her, or anyone familiar with her, to contact us promptly. It is plausible that this woman has been previously interviewed by investigators. However, due to new information and progress in our inquiry, we wish to speak with her again.”

“If you were also present at Southampton Common on the morning of Saturday, September 6, please reach out to us. We are especially interested in hearing from any dog walkers who have not yet come forward.”

“No matter how seemingly insignificant, any information you possess could be pivotal to our investigation. To communicate with us, dial 101 and reference incident number 44250456238. Alternatively, you can submit a report online via the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website.”

Following his passing, Mr. Deputat’s family remembered him as a modest yet ambitious brother and son whose charm and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

The family expressed, “Ernest, you were a humble, but ambitious brother and son. Every encounter with you was unforgettable.”

“Your smile, coupled with your humor and light-heartedness in conversations, drew people to you. The entire family always longed for you and anticipated your return.”

“You chose the life you desired; you were both the ship and the captain of your destiny. Be at peace now. We thank you for all the shared moments, each phone call, and every indication that you remembered us. Until we meet again, your Family.”
