Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the passing of an elderly British man who was robbed outside his vacation residence in Tenerife. The 88-year-old, identified as Ray, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital following the assault last Wednesday, leading to the arrests of the trio shortly thereafter.
The exact location of their detention and whether they will be charged with homicide remain unclear. A spokesperson for Spain’s National Police verified the arrests, stating that three persons were taken into custody after the incident involving the British man who later passed away in the hospital.
The victim, who had recently celebrated his birthday at a local pub in Tenerife, suffered a fatal head injury during a brief altercation. He had been in critical condition at the hospital following the violent attack in Los Cristianos, accompanied by his 79-year-old wife at the time.
In tribute to the deceased man, floral arrangements have been left outside the apartment complex where the mugging occurred. One of the messages on the bouquets read, “RIP Ray, We Will Miss You.” A friend recalled meeting him recently at a pub and expressed disbelief over the tragic event.
The assault took place at the entrance of an apartment building named Victoria Court II in Los Cristianos, resulting in the victim falling and experiencing cardiac arrest. Emergency responders managed to revive him on-site before rushing him to the hospital in critical condition.
Local residents and frequent visitors to Tenerife have voiced concerns about the escalating mugging incidents in the area, urging law enforcement to take more decisive action. One individual shared their dismay over the situation, citing multiple incidents in the vicinity over a short period and calling for increased security measures.
