Tragic Death During Buttocks Filler Removal Surgery

A tragic incident occurred at a clinic in a shopping center when a nursing assistant, Paula Andrea Beltrán Sandoval, passed away during a procedure to remove toxic fillers from her buttocks. Sandoval, 41, experienced a cardiorespiratory arrest approximately 70 minutes into the operation despite extensive resuscitation efforts. Unfortunately, she was declared deceased after more than 40 minutes of resuscitation attempts.

Originally from Colombia, Sandoval, who resided and worked in New York, made the trip to Medellín for the removal procedure due to health issues related to her initial biopolymer injections. Biopolymer injections are illegal for cosmetic use in Colombia and not sanctioned for cosmetic purposes in the UK due to their high risks, such as necrosis, migration, and sepsis.

The surgery took place at a clinic within the El Tesoro shopping center in Medellín on June 18, costing 38,000,000 Colombian Pesos (approximately £8,335). Authorities have initiated an investigation into Sandoval’s death, examining the clinic’s documentation, licenses, and staff qualifications. Forensic experts at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences will perform a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

The case is actively under scrutiny, awaiting the findings of the post-mortem examination.
