Three brothers from Sheffield faced justice for their crimes involving the sexual abuse of underage girls. One of the brothers, known as “Killer,” was sentenced to 27 years in prison for his actions but had fled to Pakistan. The other two brothers, Kamar Ilyas and Kamran Ilyas, were also sentenced, with Kamar receiving a 10-year jail term and Kamran receiving three years.
The older brother, Amar Ilyas, committed multiple offenses, including rape, against five victims. The National Crime Agency (NCA) investigated the case, leading to the arrest of the three brothers in 2020 and their subsequent charging in 2023.
The victims, who were targeted and abused by the brothers over a span of years, shared their harrowing experiences in court. The abuse included coercion, intimidation, and violent acts, leaving lasting trauma on the victims. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating that the victims were subjected to degrading and violent acts.
The investigation, part of Operation Stovewood by the NCA in Rotherham, uncovered a network of exploitation that affected over 1,100 children between 1997 and 2013. The operation has resulted in numerous convictions, highlighting the scale of child sexual abuse and grooming that has taken place. The total cost of Operation Stovewood has been estimated at around £90 million.
The victims bravely confronted their abusers in court, expressing the lasting impact of the abuse on their lives. Their statements reflected the deep emotional scars left by the traumatic experiences they endured at the hands of the Ilyas brothers.
