A teenager hailed as “quick-thinking” by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) rescued two men who had fallen from an inflatable toy near the Isle of Skye using his own boat. RNLI volunteers from Kyle of Lochalsh responded to a distress call at Broadford Bay around 9 pm on Saturday regarding the men in trouble in the water. However, before the RNLI team arrived, a 16-year-old spotted the distressed pair, took his boat out, and safely brought them back to shore.
After confirming no injuries, the RNLI crew departed the scene. Andrew MacDonald, helm at Kyle RNLI, commended the teenager’s swift actions, emphasizing that his intervention prevented a potentially severe situation. MacDonald also advised against using inflatable toys in open water, recommending their use in swimming pools only. He stressed the importance of wearing life jackets and having a means of communication for emergencies while in water.
