An 18-year-old woman tragically passed away after a loading lorry, reportedly taken without permission by a group of individuals, struck her in a park. The tragic incident occurred in Southend’s Chalkwell Park during the early hours of Saturday, June 13, resulting in severe injuries to the woman who was swiftly transported to the hospital for treatment.
Essex Police disclosed that two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been apprehended on suspicion of causing serious harm through reckless driving and have been released on bail. Authorities are urging witnesses, particularly among the large gathering of young people present during the event, to step forward and aid in the ongoing investigation.
In a statement, Essex Police expressed, “A teenager involved in a vehicular incident in Southend has unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. Upon receiving reports of unauthorized control of a small articulated loading vehicle by a group of individuals in Chalkwell Park around 12:30 am on Saturday, June 13, an 18-year-old woman sustained significant injuries and, despite medical efforts, has tragically passed away. Our investigation continues, with an 18-year-old man from Westcliff and a 17-year-old boy on bail until September.”
