“Two women critically injured by falling telegraph pole at Welsh train station”

Two women are in critical condition after being injured by a falling telegraph pole at a busy train station in Rhondda, Wales. The incident occurred at Pontyclun train station, where emergency services, including an air ambulance, responded promptly. One of the women sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other is also in critical condition.

The telegraph pole, which had live electricity wires, struck the women in the station’s car park before they were rushed to University Hospital of Wales for medical treatment. South Wales Police were alerted to the scene and confirmed the women were trapped under the pole before being rescued.

Pontyclun station, situated on the south Wales line between Cardiff and Maesteg, occasionally serves regional Swanline services connecting Cardiff Central and Swansea. The station is unstaffed, adding to the urgency of the situation.
