Man Released on Bail After Child Thrown into Crocodile Pen

A man suspected of attempted murder in connection with a child entering a crocodile enclosure at a zoo has been released on bail due to being deemed unfit for questioning.

The 30-year-old individual, hailing from Norfolk, was apprehended following an incident where the zoo owner intervened to rescue a severely injured three-year-old boy who was reportedly thrown into the crocodile pen. Cambridgeshire Police disclosed that the man, unrelated to the toddler, was deemed unsuitable for interrogation and was bailed until September 18. Meanwhile, the young boy, from Cambridgeshire, remains hospitalized at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in critical but stable condition.

A local resident, opting to stay anonymous, mentioned that Tracey Johnson, co-owner of the zoo with her husband Andy, bravely entered the enclosure to save the child. Chris Newman, the director of the national center for reptile welfare, praised Tracey’s heroic actions, describing her as a courageous and strong individual.

The Johnson family, known for their extensive experience with crocodiles, has been actively involved in crocodile welfare for the past two decades. Andy Johnson, the current owner, has even contributed to a published dossier on crocodilian farming and husbandry.

The zoo’s Tropical House will remain closed as a sign of respect to the affected family, with Johnson’s expressing their thoughts and prayers for the boy and his relatives. The incident has sparked investigations and statements from local authorities and officials, emphasizing support for the victim’s family during this distressing period.
