Two individuals, identified as Corey Charters, 20, and a 17-year-old boy, are facing charges of attempted murder following an incident in Blyth, Northumberland. The situation unfolded when two women in their 30s were hit by a vehicle on Keelmans Terrace early Friday morning. One woman suffered severe injuries and is currently in critical condition, while the other sustained minor injuries.
The suspects were charged on Wednesday in connection with the case, which occurred near the Beaumont Street junction. The vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene and was later discovered burnt out in the High Pitt area of Cramlington. Following investigations, three individuals were apprehended, with Charters and the teenage boy being charged. Another person, a 21-year-old man, was released on bail.
Apart from the attempted murder charge, Charters, who is homeless, also faces charges of driving without a valid license and insurance. Both defendants are scheduled to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court in North Shields on Thursday morning. Authorities from Northumbria Police are seeking information, including doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage, to aid in the ongoing investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry of the Major Investigation Team emphasized that while progress has been made with the charges, the investigation is ongoing. He urged the public to provide any details regarding a dark-colored 2007 Honda (SUV) seen in the vicinity between 1 am and 1:30 am on the day of the incident. The victims were reportedly involved in an earlier altercation with the occupants of the same vehicle on Stephen Street before the collision.
The burnt-out vehicle was discovered in High Pitt later that day, prompting the police to caution against speculation about the case. They stressed the importance of respecting the legal process now that charges have been filed.
