Two teenagers are facing murder charges following the death of a 21-year-old man in a park. Essex Police reported that Radwan Shakur, a resident of Wembley, north-west London, was discovered with stab wounds at Central Park in Chelmsford. Despite immediate medical attention, Mr. Shakur passed away at the scene. An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, whose identities are protected by law, have been accused of his murder.
Romeo Mfinda, 18, residing at Widford Chase, Chelmsford, and a 17-year-old boy from the same area, have also been charged with possession with intent to supply cannabis and carrying a knife in public. Both individuals appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Mfinda confirmed his personal details in court, did not enter a plea, and was not granted bail. He has been remanded in custody to appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on the following day.
The 17-year-old boy, who appeared separately in court, has been remanded in youth detention accommodation pending a hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court. Mr. Shakur’s family, in a statement released through the police, described him as a beloved individual with a promising future. They expressed their deep sorrow and loss over his passing.
Initially, three teenagers aged 18, 17, and 14 were arrested on suspicion of murder, with the 18-year-old released on bail after questioning and the 14-year-old released under investigation. Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of an 18-year-old suspect on Sunday.
Detective Inspector Lydia George, leading the investigation, emphasized the severity of the incident and extended sympathy to Mr. Shakur’s family. She urged the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during this challenging period.
