The announcement of Kevin Sinfield receiving a knighthood was met with praise from Rob Burrow’s wife, who highlighted the importance of Kevin’s friendship. The Mirror exclusively disclosed the news that the rugby league icon and Motor Neurone Disease advocate, Kevin Sinfield, is to be honored in the upcoming King’s Birthday Honours for his outstanding dedication in memory of his late friend and Leeds Rhinos teammate, Rob Burrow. Sinfield has participated in numerous challenging marathons, raising an impressive £11 million for MND charities.

Lindsey, Rob’s wife, expressed her congratulations to Kevin, emphasizing his significant contributions to raising awareness and supporting families affected by MND. She commended Kevin for his unwavering commitment to the MND community and the crucial role he plays as a champion for those battling the disease.

During his illustrious career, Kevin led Leeds Rhinos to an impressive 15 major titles before retiring in 2015. Following Rob’s MND diagnosis in 2019, Kevin embarked on a series of ironman charity marathons, stating his deep gratitude for the recognition received on behalf of the rugby and MND communities.

Kevin emphasized the profound impact rugby has had on his life, highlighting the enduring friendships and values instilled through the sport. He acknowledged the courage displayed by Rob in his battle with MND, inspiring Kevin to continue advocating for the MND community and raising awareness for the cause.

Having previously received an MBE and OBE for his contributions, Kevin has been a driving force in supporting MND research and families impacted by the disease. His final charity challenge, The Grand Finale – 7 in 7, will see him run between Hull and Manchester, visiting all 12 English Super League grounds along the way, culminating in a grand finish at the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford.
