A courageous teacher at a high school in Manchester was stabbed in the neck while shielding students during a triple stabbing incident. Identified as Maysum Abdullah, 27, he sustained a neck injury during the incident at Co-op Academy Manchester in Blackley. The school went into lockdown following reports of a student with a knife, who was promptly apprehended by school staff.
Although the incident is not considered a terror attack, counter-terrorism authorities are spearheading an investigation into the matter. The attack resulted in injuries to three individuals: a 14-year-old girl with shoulder injuries, a 14-year-old boy with ear injuries, and Mr. Abdullah with neck and hand injuries. Fortunately, all are recuperating at home with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the incident, a 14-year-old schoolgirl was arrested for Section 18 assault and later detained under the Mental Health Act. She has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, as confirmed by Counter Terrorism Policing North West. Mr. Abdullah expressed his struggle to comprehend the events that transpired during the attack.
Acknowledging the support received, Mr. Abdullah’s wife, Saima, expressed gratitude for the care and well-wishes. She highlighted her husband’s dedication to protecting the students and thanked everyone involved for their assistance during this challenging time. The Co-Op Academies Trust praised the swift and courageous actions of their staff in detaining the student.
Greater Manchester Police have handed over the investigation to Counter Terrorism Policing North West for further inquiries. Authorities are maintaining an open perspective on the attack’s motive and have not classified it as a terrorist incident. Chief Superintendent David Meeney assured the community of ongoing safety measures and encouraged individuals to communicate any concerns to local law enforcement.
