Woman Gives Birth in Car at Gas Station After Curry Meal

A woman gave birth to her baby at a gas station after her water broke unexpectedly while she was eating a chicken curry. Sarah Frost was at her home in Trimdon, County Durham, enjoying a meal prepared by her mother when she went into labor. Rather than waiting for an ambulance, her sister Danielle Charlton drove her to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton.

Due to the urgency of the situation, they stopped at an Esso garage in Sedgefield, where the baby was born in the back seat of the car before they could reach the hospital. The newborn weighed seven pounds and five ounces and is yet to be named by the parents, but hospital staff have affectionately dubbed him ‘the Esso garage baby.’

Reflecting on the experience, Danielle shared, “Sarah began experiencing back pain after our Sunday meal at our mom’s place. Despite the unexpected situation, Sarah was remarkably calm during the birth, and I assisted in delivering the baby in the car. The baby initially appeared a bit blue, but eventually cried, bringing relief to everyone present.”

Sarah expressed her gratitude towards her sister’s quick actions and humorously recounted the moment healthcare workers recognized her as ‘the Esso garage baby.’ This unconventional birth at a gas station pales in comparison to other unique delivery locations, such as a high-altitude flight, a Subway sandwich shop, and even atop a tree during a flood rescue operation in Mozambique.
