North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un recently urged workers at a newly established nuclear production facility to accelerate the production of atomic weapons to enhance the country’s expanding arsenal. Kim was seen inspecting the latest nuclear material production plant, providing guidance to officials and experts, and expressing satisfaction with their work, leading him to demand increased production output from the factory.
Accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Munitions Industry of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Nuclear Weapons Research Institute, Kim examined production lines, discussed projects with senior officials, and interacted with workers involved in advancing the nation’s nuclear technology.
During his visit, Kim highlighted that the production capacity of weapons-grade nuclear material had doubled compared to previous levels due to efforts over the past five years. He encouraged factory workers to further boost their output to meet the nation’s needs. Kim also revealed plans to significantly strengthen the national nuclear force, attributing the current nuclear advancements to the dedication of North Korean scientists over the past years.
Emphasizing the importance of expanding the arsenal as a deterrent to war, Kim described it as a vital measure to safeguard the country’s security, interests, and development rights. He stated that this expansion was necessary to counter long-term confrontations with adversaries, hinting at a potential threat to the West.
Kim’s inspection of the operational atomic facility followed North Korea’s recent launch of an unidentified projectile into the ocean as part of its ongoing weapons tests. South Korean military officials confirmed the launch of the projectile off the peninsula’s west coast, marking the latest in a series of tests conducted by North Korea this year.
Previous launches by North Korea included projectiles flying approximately 49 miles before landing in the Yellow Sea on May 26, and a demonstration of cluster bomb warheads through the firing of multiple short-range missiles on April 19. These actions underscore North Korea’s continued efforts to enhance its military capabilities under Kim’s leadership.
