“Young Woman Dies from Misdiagnosed Cancer After Stress-Related Headaches”

A tragic incident unfolded as a young woman lost her life due to what initially seemed like stress-related headaches but turned out to be cancer.

Graham Hood, 62, shared how his daughter Cara, 18, began suffering from migraines in the spring of 2024. Initially thought to be linked to exam stress, the headaches persisted through the summer. Eventually, in August, the family received devastating news that Cara had medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumor.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Cara’s health deteriorated over the next year, leading to her passing in the hospital on November 8, 2025.

In memory of Cara, Graham, along with his son Rory, 21, is embarking on a 56.7-mile charity cycle ride. Reflecting on Cara’s struggles during her exams in 2024, Graham recalled her complaints of persistent headaches, which were initially brushed off as stress-related.

As Cara’s symptoms persisted, her parents, Lyndsay, a community pharmacist, and Graham, sought medical help. Following a CT scan on August 8, Cara was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was promptly removed the next day. Despite initial beliefs that the tumor was benign, further tests revealed it to be an aggressive cancer known as Medulloblastoma.

Subsequent treatments, including proton beam therapy and chemotherapy, were administered, but unfortunately, the cancer returned in September 2025. This led to a series of challenging medical visits, with Cara eventually passing away on November 8.

In an effort to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, Graham has already garnered over £6,700 in donations ahead of the charity cycle ride. He emphasized the need for increased funding in brain tumor research, highlighting the lack of focus on this specific area of illness.

Reflecting on his daughter’s journey, Graham expressed the difficulty of recognizing early signs of the illness. Despite the challenges faced, he finds solace in the fact that Cara lived a healthy and happy life for her first 17 years, acknowledging the hardships faced by families with younger children battling similar illnesses.
