The countdown to World Cup football excitement is on, with fans nationwide gearing up for the kick-off on June 11. However, many fans feel that official national team shirts, priced at almost £100, are too expensive, according to recent research. Concerns about keeping the original shirt clean and avoiding damage have led 50% of fans to opt for cheaper T-shirts during matches.
In response to this issue, Asda has introduced affordable England and Scotland-inspired shirts at just £12 in-store at George for this summer. Moreover, Asda offers a unique shirt swap option, allowing fans to exchange a tournament shirt for a different clothing item if their team exits the competition early.
An Asda spokesperson emphasized the importance of making football shirts accessible to all fans, especially those who wish to enjoy the tournament without breaking the bank. Despite the cost concerns, the survey revealed that 43% of respondents still want to wear team colors during major events, with 44% feeling a sense of participation, even if they are not avid football followers.
The survey also highlighted that more than half of Brits have refrained from purchasing football shirts due to high prices, with 74% finding current shirt costs unaffordable. A majority of 58% indicated that a reasonable price for a football shirt would be between £25 and £49.
With prices starting from just £5, the George’s England and Scotland-inspired range offers fans an affordable means to show their support throughout the tournament.
