At least 27 individuals sustained injuries following a collision between two trams in Germany. Reports from local media in Düsseldorf indicated that numerous people were treated after the incident. Authorities are conducting an investigation into the crash, which involved two carriages carrying approximately 60 passengers.
Emergency services responded to the collision, with the fire department confirming they assisted the injured and 28 others who escaped unharmed. Five individuals suffered severe injuries during the collision, which occurred around 11:30 am on a Saturday at the junction of Berliner Allee and Graf-Adolf-Straße (Friedrichstadt) in the bustling German city.
Local officials have initiated an inquiry into the incident. According to reports from the Rheinische Post, one of the trams was on the wrong track at the time of the crash. The misalignment of a switch on the tram’s rail network might have been the cause of the head-on collision.
Fortunately, the fire services stated that none of the individuals removed from the tracks had life-threatening injuries. Technical rescue operations were unnecessary, as most passengers were able to extricate themselves from the tram cars. The Rheinbahn tram network spokeswoman mentioned that tram services are being redirected over a wide area while crews address the crash site.
