A vehicle collided with a lamppost, leading to traffic disruptions on a key highway. Motorists encountered significant delays on the M5 near Bristol after the crash, which blocked a slip road on the northbound section at junction 20.
Multiple emergency service vehicles responded to the scene, and traffic cameras captured extensive tailbacks and queues. However, traffic flow on the M5 has since returned to normal.
National Highways confirmed that the vehicles involved in the earlier collision were cleared from the M5 at Junction 16, easing traffic congestion. The M5 northbound and M4 east and westbound lanes have also reopened.
According to National Highways, a single vehicle collided with and toppled a light post, leading to delays on the M5 near Bristol. An additional incident was reported on the M5 northbound at J15 to M4 east and westbound in Somerset, resulting in road closures due to a collision. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, but delays were expected to worsen.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix documented the incident at 2:56 pm, noting that the M5 Northbound exit slip road was obstructed, causing very slow traffic near the Almondsbury Interchange at J15 M4 J20.
