“Trump Warns of 100% Tariff on Canadian Imports”

Donald Trump has issued a warning of imposing a 100% tariff on imports from Canada if the country strikes a trade agreement with China. The US President criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Truth Social, cautioning him against turning Canada into a transit point for Chinese goods headed to the US.

Despite Trump’s ongoing trade disputes, Canada recently finalized a deal to reduce tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for decreased import duties on Canadian agricultural goods. Trump initially praised this agreement as a positive move for Carney. However, in his latest statement, Trump expressed concerns that a deal with China would have severe consequences for Canada’s economy and society.

Trump’s remarks followed his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he made errors regarding Iceland and Greenland and claimed NATO’s affection for him. Initially threatening tariffs on multiple European countries, including the UK, Trump later retracted the threat after reaching a preliminary agreement regarding Greenland.

As a result, the US will not proceed with imposing tariffs on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland starting February 1. Trump had previously hinted at raising these tariffs to 25% effective June 1 but decided otherwise following a positive meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

In a statement, Trump indicated that he had established a framework for a potential deal concerning Greenland, leading to the decision to halt the scheduled tariffs set to take effect on February 1.
