“Tragic Murder-Suicide in Portugal Claims British Teen’s Life”

In Portugal, a tragic incident unfolded as a British boy lost his life to a violent attack by his mother’s ex-partner. The 13-year-old victim, identified as Alfie Hallett, was the target of a suspected murder-suicide attempt that also claimed the life of the assailant. Alfie’s basketball club expressed sorrow over his untimely death, highlighting his exceptional performance in a recent game, which now carries poignant significance.

The local community, including basketball associations, mourned the loss of Alfie, who met a cruel fate in the village where he had settled with his family. His mother, also a victim of the attack, sustained injuries and was hospitalized following the tragic incident.

The perpetrator, identified as 43-year-old Goncalo Carvalho, had a history of violence, having previously served a lengthy prison sentence for a brutal stabbing. Authorities are treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide, with Carvalho meeting his end at the scene.

Law enforcement in Portugal, specifically the Policia Judiciaria, initiated an investigation into the dual fatalities in the parish of Casais in Tomar. The statement released by the authorities detailed the stabbing deaths of Alfie and the presumed assailant, with Alfie’s mother also being found injured and attended to by medical personnel.

Neighbors recounted Carvalho’s concerning behavior, describing him as “obsessive” and often seen loitering near Alfie and his mother’s residence. Despite the official separation between Alfie’s mother and Carvalho, they were spotted together just days before the tragic incident.

The police suspect that Carvalho fatally stabbed Alfie, attacked his mother, and inflicted self-harm before barricading himself in their home, triggering a gas explosion upon the arrival of emergency services. Alfie’s mother, who had been bound and assaulted, managed to free herself and seek assistance from neighbors, ultimately ending up in the hospital for treatment.

The sports community, particularly the basketball section of Sport Club Operario Cem Soldos (SCOCS) in Tomar, expressed deep sorrow over Alfie’s passing, emphasizing his talent and impact within the team. The heartfelt message conveyed love and remembrance for the young athlete, highlighting the profound loss felt by all who knew him.
