“Teen orchestrates parents’ murder plot for inheritance”

A teenager faces charges of two counts of murder for allegedly orchestrating a plan to have a friend kill his parents.

Darren Munoz, 19, is accused of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and criminal solicitation in connection with the deaths of his father, Oscar Steve Munoz, 58, and stepmother, Dina Munoz, 71.

Reports indicate that the teenager, along with two friends, planned for an extended period to carry out the killings.

Law enforcement responded to a potential burglary at the Clovis, New Mexico residence around 4:50 am on Monday, with the teenager purportedly making the call.

Upon arrival, Munoz reassured officers that everything was in order. However, when officers requested to check on his parents, he allegedly dissuaded them, claiming they were asleep in the nude, as per ABC7 News.

Subsequently, when the police investigated, Munoz emerged from his parents’ room with blood on his hands. Sadly, Dina Munoz was found deceased, and Oscar Munoz was severely injured, passing away later at the hospital.

An acquaintance informed the authorities that Darren, along with Julio Zamora and another individual, had been planning for an extended period to eliminate his parents to gain control over their assets and finances.

The arrest affidavit revealed that Darren anticipated a substantial inheritance once his father and stepmother were no longer alive.

Allegedly, Darren facilitated Julio’s entry into the residence by opening the garage door at 4:42 am. Julio then reportedly entered and shot Darren’s parents while they were asleep, leading to his subsequent arrest.

Julio confessed to authorities that Darren had solicited him to carry out the murders, and the gun seized during his arrest was identified as the weapon used in the crime.

Julio Zamora also faces charges of two counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
