“Police Incident Shuts Down UK Motorways Overnight”

Two major motorways in the UK were closed overnight due to a police-led incident. The M6 in Lancashire was shut down in both directions between junction 31 (Preston) and junction 32 (M55) in the early hours of New Year’s Day. National Highways confirmed that the M55 eastbound was also closed between junction one and the M6.

According to a spokesperson for National Highways, emergency services, including Lancashire Police, were at the scene, and National Highways staff were assisting with traffic management. Due to the incident’s nature, there was no estimated time for the roads to reopen.

The police-led incident has now ended, and the process of reopening the M6 has begun. National Highways stated that both directions of the M6 between junction 31 and junction 32 were in the process of reopening, as well as the M55 eastbound between junction one and the M6. The spokesperson for National Highways mentioned that traffic within the closure was being turned around and released from the back of the queue.

National Highways reported that the M6 in Lancashire remained closed in both directions between junction 31 (Preston) and junction 32 (M55) due to the ongoing police-led incident. Additionally, the M55 eastbound was closed between junction one and the M6, resulting in the closure of the M6 northbound between junction 31 and junction 33.

It was anticipated that the M6 would continue to be closed throughout the early hours of New Year’s Day morning. The specific details of the incident were still unknown, but it was being managed by Lancashire Police.
