Police intervened at a hospital where a nurse required medical attention following an alleged assault. The incident occurred at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester around 1:30 am yesterday, resulting in injuries to a male nurse in his 50s. Fortunately, the injuries are deemed non-life-threatening or permanent, and the nurse has been discharged from the hospital, according to Greater Manchester Police.
A 48-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of committing a Section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm). Reports suggest that the suspect, who was receiving treatment at Wythenshawe Hospital at the time, is still hospitalized. The assault on the nurse reportedly involved the use of a broken mug.
A spokesperson from GMP stated that officers responded to a call about a serious assault at a hospital on Southmoor Road in Manchester at 1:30 am on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The 48-year-old suspect was swiftly apprehended on suspicion of a section 18 assault.
The suspect remains in police custody, while the nurse, aged in his 50s, sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering. The nurse has been discharged from the hospital, and investigations are ongoing.
