A mother facing charges in the deaths of her three children made an appearance in court. Yasmeen Ali, aged 43, stands accused of killing seven-year-old Fares Bash, three-year-old Joury Bash, and nine-month-old Mohammed Bash. The tragic incident, resulting in the children’s fatal stab wounds, occurred in February last year at their residence in the Sea Mills neighborhood of Bristol.
Appearing via video link from the hospital during a brief session at Bristol Magistrates’ Court, Ali confirmed her name and birthdate. The court informed that the case would be transferred to Bristol Crown Court as Judge Lynne Matthews stated, “These matters all have to be heard by the crown court. A hearing will take place at Bristol Crown Court tomorrow. I will remand you into custody.”
A prior inquest revealed that the children succumbed to knife wounds, with injuries found on their chests and necks. Additionally, Fares Bash displayed potential signs of asphyxia. Their father, Alfil Bash, expressed profound grief at the inquest opening, describing Fares as a talented child who enjoyed football, singing, and mathematics.
Following the tragic loss, a large gathering attended a memorial vigil dedicated to Fares, Joury, and Mohammed. The siblings received heartfelt tributes, being remembered as exceptionally kind-hearted individuals.
Salwa Bashar, aged 32, shared memories of her close interaction with the children, particularly Fares, whom she described as exceptionally bright and kind-hearted. She expressed deep sorrow at the loss, emphasizing Fares’ potential to achieve greatness as he matured.
In the aftermath of the incident, Avon and Somerset Police referred their actions to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review due to prior interactions, but no formal investigation was deemed necessary.
Ali has been detained in custody and is scheduled to appear before Bristol Crown Court for further proceedings on Friday.
