A woman believed to be missing from the UK was discovered deceased in southern Spain following an extensive search operation. The search was initiated for 73-year-old Geraldine Ann after she disappeared from her residence in Chirivel near Granada on September 17.
Reportedly, she left her home late at night in pajamas and flip-flops to feed some cats after an argument with her husband, who reported her missing the next day. A body was found concealed under vegetation near a motorway. Authorities are awaiting DNA test results, but indications suggest the deceased individual is Geraldine.
Chirivel Town Hall released a statement expressing sadness over the discovery of a body near the A-92 motorway, believed to be that of Geraldine. The search for the missing British woman, a resident of Contador in the Chirivel district, involved drones, officials, and volunteers.
The mayor of Chirivel, Jose Torregrosa Mota, mentioned that Geraldine suffered from senile dementia and had left home after a minor disagreement with her husband. The Civil Guard and local police, along with search teams, including sniffer dogs and a specialized mountain rescue unit, were involved in the search efforts.
Volunteers, including British expatriates, also participated in the search after her disappearance was publicized on social media and through a Spanish missing persons association called SOS Desaparecidos. Despite discontinuing the advanced control room, the search is ongoing, with a plea for continued vigilance.
In a separate incident, the body of a British man, Marc Tulloch Hewson, who had been missing for nearly a month, was discovered on Spain’s Costa Blanca. Hewson, 63, from Wantage, Oxfordshire, was last seen in Torrevieja south of Alicante around September 20.
He had been admitted to Torrevieja Hospital before disappearing, and his body was found at the fishing port of Aguilas in Murcia.
