“M6 Motorway Section Closed After Serious Accident”

A major UK motorway section has been closed due to a significant accident this evening. The M6 northbound lanes between Junction 1 for Rugby and Junction 2 for Coventry and the M69 are currently shut down. The National Highways agency confirmed the closure, stating that emergency services, including Warwickshire Police, are on the scene. Traffic Officers are also present for managing the situation, and the road is expected to remain closed for an extended period due to the severity of the incident.

The West Midlands Regional Operations Centre log earlier announced that the M6 closure would last for several hours for ongoing accident investigations. All traffic affected by the initial closure has been cleared. Reports earlier in the evening indicated a serious collision between Junction 1 and 2 on the M6.

National Highways are redirecting traffic off the M6 northbound at the Rugby turnoff following the crash. They anticipate the closure to persist for several hours. The agency has provided a diversion route for motorists. It involves following the Hollow Triangle diversion symbol on road signs, exiting M6 J1 to the A426 northbound, continuing on A426 to the A5 junction, taking the A5 westbound to M69 J1, then proceeding on M69 southbound to M6 J2.
