M1 Highway Shutdown: Oil Spill Causes Chaos

A significant section of a main highway had to be shut down due to a crash that caused an oil spill. The M1 northbound had traffic stopped between junction 14 near Milton Keynes and junction 15 for Northampton at approximately 5:30 am today. It is anticipated that regular traffic flow will resume later this morning.

National Highways has confirmed the complete reopening of the affected stretch of the M1 after it was closed earlier today. The road has been cleared, and all lanes are now accessible on the M1 in Buckinghamshire heading northbound between J14 (Milton Keynes) and J15 (Northampton) following an accident that resulted in an oil leak. National Highways expressed gratitude for people’s patience and wished them a safe onward journey.

An incident occurring just after 5 am caused an oil spill, which has been evaluated. This led to a standstill in traffic, causing disruption for the New Year getaway, with all lanes closed until nearly 8 am. Although some lanes have reopened, National Highways cautioned that delays persist and advised drivers to allocate extra time for their travels.

National Highways affirmed that traffic has resumed but cautioned about a two-mile backlog. While traffic has been allowed to proceed on the M1, two lanes are still closed. Delays persist on the section following the closure at 5:30 am.

National Highways conveyed, “Traffic has been allowed to proceed on the M1 in Buckinghamshire heading northbound between J14 (Milton Keynes) and J15 (Northampton) following an accident. Lanes 3 & 4 (out of 4) remain shut. Lanes 1 & 2 are open. Please factor in extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience.”
