The singer shared that her eight-month-old twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, were given the heartbreaking news, explaining that the condition leads to progressive muscle weakness and wasting due to the loss of motor neurons. Jesy emotionally described how the disease affects various muscles in the body, impacting movements like breathing and swallowing, ultimately causing muscle degeneration over time.
After Jesy courageously shared the news in a video message, she received an outpouring of support from fans. In response, Zion, who proposed to Jesy in September, shared a message of hope along with a new photo of their daughters, emphasizing how the girls are resiliently facing the challenges with smiles. Detailing the tough journey, Jesy disclosed that the past few months had been extremely trying, especially with numerous hospital visits and medical appointments for the girls. She highlighted the swift diagnosis of severe muscular disease, SMA Type 1, and the urgent treatment they received at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, emphasizing the critical nature of timely intervention due to the lack of a cure for SMA.
Jesy’s pregnancy was also complicated by twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition affecting a percentage of identical twins sharing a placenta, leading to potentially serious outcomes as per the NHS. Jesy underwent an emergency procedure and spent ten weeks in the hospital before prematurely giving birth to the twins at 31 weeks on May 15.
Expressing her deep emotions, Jesy revealed the heartbreak she felt during the challenging period, noting how her life had drastically changed. Despite the difficulties, she expressed her belief that with appropriate support, her daughters could overcome the odds and achieve remarkable milestones.
