Police have initiated an investigation into a homicide following the tragic death of a three-month-old baby boy due to a severe head injury.
The infant, Atijus Elertaite, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after law enforcement responded to a residence in March, Cambridgeshire, on January 3. The incident occurred at St John’s Chase around 11 am, according to Cambridgeshire Police.
Tragically, Atijus passed away on January 8, with a preliminary post-mortem examination identifying a head injury as the probable cause of death, pending further medical scrutiny, as per the authorities.
Before the infant’s demise, a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, both residents of March, were initially apprehended on suspicion of causing serious harm (GBH). They were subsequently re-arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann expressed the community’s likely shock and sorrow, extending sympathy to those impacted by Atijus’ untimely demise.
McCann urged the public to refrain from speculation, especially on social media, to avoid hampering the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the need to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
