A long-standing UK travel company has recently gone into liquidation, marking the end of its 55-year presence in the industry and prompting immediate communication to impacted vacationers.
Established in 1970 by Peter Reglar, Ickenham Travel Group started as a single shop venture. The company’s closure came to light following an announcement by the Civil Aviation Authority that it had stopped trading as an Atol holder on November 20.
According to the CAA’s Atol failures register, the company operated under various names such as Abu Dhabi Holidays, Ras Al Khaimah Holidays, Letsgo2, and had multiple websites including www.ickenham-travel.co.uk, www.letsgo2.com, among others.
For travelers holding Atol-protected package bookings currently abroad with confirmed return e-tickets, the CAA has assured that their scheduled flights will proceed as scheduled. This means that affected individuals do not need to seek alternative arrangements or purchase new tickets since their original bookings remain valid despite the upheaval.
In a crucial advisory, the CAA emphasized, “You are recommended to follow the airline’s check-in procedures in line with your existing flight ticket.”
The CAA disclosed ongoing discussions with service providers to ensure the seamless continuation of other trip components. The authority further stated, “If you possess an Atol flight-inclusive package booking with issued flight tickets, your flights should be viable for travel, and it’s advisable to verify this with the airline.
“In the event the airline confirms your eligibility for travel, you may have the possibility to proceed with your trip. However, certain services might not have been settled with local suppliers, necessitating you to reorganize and cover the costs again. To preempt any complications at your destination, it’s recommended to ascertain the expenses of all services beforehand whenever feasible.”
