“HGV Crash Causes M1 Traffic Chaos”

An incident involving a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) veering off the road has led to significant traffic disruptions on a busy stretch of motorway. The M1 experienced a temporary closure as a result of the accident, according to traffic monitoring system Inrix. The event occurred on the M1 southbound, specifically at junction 35 on the A629 Cowley Hill in Rotherham.

At 11 am today, traffic came to a standstill, prompting the closure of the entry slip road at junction 35. Drivers have been advised to steer clear of the area while emergency services attend to the aftermath of the HGV collision.

According to officials, the clearing of the crash site is not expected until after midnight. National Highways has provided updates, indicating that normal traffic conditions are anticipated to resume at specific times, including 15:00 to 15:15 for all lanes being open on the M1 southbound.

The closure of the entry slip at J35 is projected to persist until later in the evening, with estimated clearing times provided by National Highways and Traffic England. Delays against typical traffic patterns are still ongoing, though the number of open lanes has partially alleviated the congestion.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed the incident and urged motorists to avoid the affected area. The ongoing situation, which began around 11:00 am, has resulted in lane closures and significant delays on the M1 southbound.
