“Fallen Soldier Honored with Full Military Funeral”

A soldier who tragically passed away after falling from her horse at the Royal Windsor Horse Show was honored in a funeral with full military respects. Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, 24, a member of the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, sustained severe injuries during the incident on May 15 and sadly lost her life. The Guards’ Chapel in Central London was filled with mourners including family, friends, and military comrades who gathered to pay tribute to the dedicated soldier known for her professionalism.

Her casket was transported on a World War I gun carriage to The Guards’ Chapel, accompanied by state trumpeters playing solemn fanfares. A three-round volley was fired at Wellington Barracks in her memory, followed by a presentation of L/Bdr Sullivan’s personal belongings to her family. Her horse, Neymar, carried her boots reversed in a touching military tradition symbolizing her final journey.

Flags were lowered to half-mast at all Army establishments in London as a mark of respect for the fallen soldier. Floral arrangements spelling out “Sully,” her affectionate nickname, were laid out alongside pictures of her in uniform riding her horse.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson expressed the King’s deep sorrow over the loss of Lance Bombardier Sullivan and extended condolences to her family. Members of the royal family, including Charles, were present at the event where the tragic incident occurred but were unaware of the severity until later.

L/Bdr Sullivan, described as an outstanding jockey with a natural connection to horses, was honored by her commanding officer as a beacon of positivity and dedication. She was hailed for her infectious energy and unwavering support for her comrades in all situations.

Having joined the Army Training Centre in Pirbright in November 2020, L/Bdr Sullivan became a part of the King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery in June 2021. She actively participated in ceremonial duties, including Royal Gun Salutes in London’s Hyde Park and Green Park.

Renowned for her expertise as an advanced regimental riding instructor, L/Bdr Sullivan dedicated herself to training military horses and mentoring her peers in the troop. Her passion for The Troop was evident in her involvement in various activities such as show jumping and The Troop Race.

The Ministry of Defence highlighted her enthusiasm and commitment to her role, emphasizing her integral role in the troop’s activities.
