The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed details of the recently reached tentative agreement with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal encompasses an increase of over 18% in wages spread over three years, along with a novel “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additionally, the agreement involves extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
Amid a long holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights in a significant part of Canada were halted as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, commencing early Sunday. The airline and the union came to a tentative agreement early Monday, leading to a gradual return to regular WestJet operations.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the deal in the upcoming weeks.
