A US politician was captured on video at a Hawaii beach, wearing only his underwear, yelling and making threats with a knife. Identified as Kirill Basin, aged 40, the incident occurred at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei, Maui, after he was asked to lower his music by other beach visitors. Basin was seen confronting a group of individuals before being punched by a larger man, rendering him unconscious.
Upon regaining consciousness, Basin was warned by the man to watch his language and behavior. However, Basin persisted, threatening the man and even brandishing a knife, which he ultimately threw into the sea. Police later recovered the discarded knife and arrested Basin, charging him with two counts of first-degree terroristic threats. His bail has been set at $1 million.
Basin is set to challenge Republican Jill Tokuda for Hawaii’s second congressional district, with uncertainties arising due to his current legal situation. This incident is not Basin’s first encounter with the law, as he previously pulled a gun on Maui County workers in a separate incident. Basin’s social media post referencing alleged police mistreatment prior to his latest arrest has raised further questions about his behavior and legal troubles.
