Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are set to remain in custody for an additional two weeks pending their next court appearance as they contest extradition to the UK, where they are facing charges of rape and sex trafficking, according to a federal judge’s decision.
US magistrate Lauren Louis scheduled a detention hearing for August 13 to determine whether the social media personalities should be detained or released during what is expected to be a lengthy extradition process.
The Tates were absent from court on Monday and have been held in detention since a brief appearance following their arrest on July 18 by US marshals in Miami.
The siblings, who hold both American and British citizenship, were apprehended on new charges in the US earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Andrew Tate is currently embroiled in a legal battle in England with four women accusing him of sexual violence. His legal team has previously stated a complete denial of any wrongdoing.
Three of the women involved in the civil case reported allegations of rape and sexual assault to the Hertfordshire Constabulary in 2014 and 2015, with the case being closed in 2019. However, the civil trial was adjourned in May after authorities announced a reinvestigation into the alleged offenses.
During a preliminary hearing in the civil case, it was revealed that the UK has 60 days from the arrest date to submit a formal extradition request. Vanessa Marshall KC, representing Tate, mentioned the possibility of an appeal if extradition is granted, highlighting that extradition appeals in the US could take up to 10 months.
Judge Mrs. Justice Lambert stated that another hearing in the civil claims is scheduled for December, potentially setting a trial date. Following their July 18 arrests, the Crown Prosecution Service announced additional charges against the brothers.
Andrew Tate, 39, faces seven more rape charges, three charges of facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault causing bodily harm, and 19 other charges related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The CPS revealed that the 38 new charges, alongside the existing 21 charges, pertain to alleged offenses spanning from July 2010 to August 2017.
Moreover, the brothers are also entangled in legal proceedings in Romania and were set to be extradited to the UK after Bedfordshire Police obtained European arrest warrants for them in 2024.
Both brothers have vehemently denied any wrongdoing, with Andrew Tate referring to himself and his brother as “very innocent men.” Their attempt to challenge the CPS for not disclosing the names of their alleged victims in UK criminal proceedings was dismissed by a High Court judge in June.
